About Us

Ibom Airlines Limited, (trading as Ibom Air) received its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in May 2019, to operate scheduled, domestic, passenger and cargo services. Since the launch of its services on 07 June 2019, Ibom Air has set the standard as the airline of choice for domestic customers in Nigeria by focusing on schedule reliability, on-time performance and excellent customer service.

Established as a key element of Akwa Ibom State’s economic transformation plan, the airline was conceptualized as the vehicle to provide the much-needed capacity as well as ease of access into Akwa Ibom. It is also the critical 3rd leg of the tripod of major investments by the State Government in aviation, which include the Victor Attah International Airport and a world class Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Uyo.

The airline is wholly owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, through the State’s Investment entity- Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP). However, Ibom Air is a limited liability company and operates as an independent private enterprise, employing top notch and tested professionals, working within a world-class airline culture.

Board of Directors

Imo-Abasi Jacob, FCA

Chairman Of The Board

Mr. Imo-Abasi Jacob is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ibom Airlines Limited. As the CEO of the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation, he represents AKICORP, the shareholder of Ibom Air.

With over 40 years of professional experience, Mr Jacob’s career began in 1982 when he joined Arthur Andersen, a global firm of Chartered Accountants, where he rose to the position of Partner in the Audit Practice and Corporate Recovery Services of the company. He was also the President of Haggai Business School as well as Managing Partner of Imo-Abasi Jacob & Co (Chartered Accountants).

A veteran of corporate boards, he has served on several boards of companies in Nigeria, including as the Chairman of Akwa Savings and Loans Limited [Mortgage Bankers] and a member of the boards of Ibom Power Company Limited, Anchor Insurance Company Limited, Ibom ICON Hotel & Golf Resort, Ibom Fadama Microfinance Bank and Omega Butler Marginal Field Ltd.

An accomplished business educationist, management consultant and accountant, Mr. Jacob holds a B.Sc. in Management Studies (First Class) Honours and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA). He is also a member of many professional bodies and has been deeply involved in the development of management thoughts and principles.

Emmanuel E. Ekuwem, PHD, FNCS, FNSE, FNMET.S, NPOM

Board Member

Dr. Emmanuel E. Ekuwem, who is a former Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government (SSG), is an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics (Materials Science and Engineering), Master’s Degree in Physics, Master’s Degree in Electronic & Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. He did many of his Post-PhD fellowship research work in the Networking and Radio Propagation Laboratory of UNESCO’s ICTP, in Trieste, Italy.

He is a member of several professional bodies including:

  • Fellow of the Nigerian Computer Society (FNCS)
  • Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE)
  • Fellow of the Nigerian Met. Society (FNMet.S)
  • Member of the telecommunications industry Consultative and Advisory Forum (ICAF) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
  • Member of the Nigerian Telecom Industry Advisory Council.
  • External Member of Faculty Board of the Faculty of Technology, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; and
  • A member of the Technical Committee on Ibom Deep Seaport (IDSP)

A recipient of Nigeria’s National Productivity Order of Merit Award (NPOM), Dr. Ekuwem was conferred with the honour for his contributions to diffusion of knowledge using Information and Communications Technology.

Uko Udom, SAN

Board Member

Mr. Uko Essien Udom, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), is the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Akwa Ibom State.

Before joining the public service of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom was in private legal practice as a founding partner of the firm of Udom and Udom (Legal Practitioners).

His areas of professional interest and vast experience include Civil Litigation, Commercial Transaction Law, Cross Border Aircraft Leasing and Financing, Aviation Litigation, Transaction issues in the Electricity Value Chain, Oil and Gas transactions, Oil Spill Litigation, and Commercial Arbitration.

Mr. Udom holds professional memberships in the Nigeria Bar Association, International Bar Association and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators of the United Kingdom. He is a founding member of Aviation Education Resources and Information for Africa Lawyers (AERIAL).

He currently seats on the Boards of various companies including Ibom Icon Hotels and Resorts Limited and Ibom Airport Development Company Limited (IADCL).

Mfon Udom

Chief Executive Officer/Accountable Manager

As Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mfon Udom is the highest ranking officer of the company and is responsible for leading and managing the business.

Mr. Udom started his aviation sojourn as a Commercial Pilot and Manager, more than 50 years ago. His career as an airline and corporate pilot saw him fly extensively across the globe on several aircraft types.

He was a founding Director and later Managing Director/CEO of Aviation Development Company Plc, operators of ADC Airlines, which became Nigeria’s top private airline of the late 1980s and through the 1990s. He later became the Regional Director for Africa, of London-based Aerospace Management Capital Limited, leading their Aircraft Leasing and Financing as well as Aviation Consulting business in Africa.

In 2005, he set up an Aviation Consulting firm, Aerospace Management Services (AMS) Nigeria Limited with registered offices in Lagos, Nigeria. AMS is the Consulting firm that helped to establish Ibom Air.

Mr. Udom holds an M.Sc. degree in Air Transport Management from the City University, London and is an alumnus of the Lagos Business School Chief Executives Program.

George Uriesi

Chief Operating Officer / Executive Director

As Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Uriesi is responsible for the day to day operations of the airline, to ensure that the corporate strategy and business plans are properly executed. Mr. Uriesi’s 32-year career includes more than 28 years in aviation, covering airline operations, airport operations as well as safety and economic regulation of the industry.

Starting as a Flight Dispatcher at ADC Airlines, Nigeria, Mr. Uriesi’s career includes stints as Products Supply Manager at Procter & Gamble South Africa; General Manager, Aviation Safety Promotion at the South African Civil Aviation Authority; General Manager, Cape Town International Airport, South Africa; and Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.

He has also played active roles in the industry as a member of the International Air Services Council of South Africa, member of the Economic Regulating Committee of Airports and ATC of South Africa, Vice President of Airports Council International (for the Africa region) and the Chairman of the Board of Cape Town’s destination marketing company, Cape Town Routes Unlimited.

A recipient of Nigeria’s National Productivity Order of Merit award (NPOM), Mr. Uriesi holds a BA (Hons.) degree from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma as well as several professional and executive qualifications from the Universities of Southern California (USA), Concordia (Canada), Cranfield (UK), Cape Town (SA) and the Singapore Aviation Academy.

Mfon Udom

Chief Executive Officer/Accountable Manager

Ofonmbuk Akpan

Chief Financial Officer

As Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Akpan is responsible for the airline’s strategic financial management, corporate governance and risk management.

Mr. Akpan started his professional career in Banking (UBA and Fidelity Banks) before progressing to Mobil Producing Nigeria, where he worked for fifteen years, with increasing financial responsibilities across critical asset groups of the multi-national company. He rose to the position of Treasurer / Chief Financial Officer for the multi-billion Naira ExxonMobil Staff Cooperative Multipurpose Society Ltd.

A Fellow of key professional bodies in Nigeria including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA), the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCTI), the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management of Nigeria (FCTIM) and the Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC), Mr. Akpan holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in International Finance both from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

In the course of his professional career, Mr Akpan has built and developed competencies in a broad spectrum of financial responsibilities, with a track record of strengthening corporate governance and compliance cultures across diverse business communities, as well as extensive leadership, enterprise transformation and project management experience.

Amaka Echetabu

Director, Airline Services

As Director, Airline Services (DAS), Ms Echetabu is responsible for the quality of Ibom Air’s customer service.  She ensures that the entire customer experience through flight booking, customer contact, check-in, boarding, in-flight catering, the arrival experience and ground handling services are delivered consistently in line with international best practice.  

She has over 33 years of experience in the airline business, having cut her teeth at ADC Airlines, where she commenced her aviation career as a Cabin Crew Member. Subsequently, she became a Customer Service Representative, rising to other strategic roles including Station Manager for Abuja and Lagos respectively; Country Manager for Gabon; and eventually the airline’s Service Delivery Manager. She later became the General Manager, Ground Operations at AfriJet Airlines.

Ms. Echetabu relocated to the United Kingdom in 2012 and joined British Airways in London Heathrow’s Terminal 5, quickly becoming an award-winning Customer Service Coach. She was subsequently deployed to the project management team tasked with integrating British Airways Customer Service with that of the Spanish national carrier, Iberia.

She holds a BA (Hons) degree from the University of Jos, Nigeria as well as a Post Graduate Diploma. She is also an alumnus of the Senior Management Program at the Lagos Business School.

Adebayo Odunsi

Director, Flight Operations

As Director, Flight Operations (DFO), Captain Odunsi is responsible for all aspects of the airline’s flight operations and ensures that all Ibom Air flights operate safely and in compliance with the relevant Civil Aviation Regulations. This includes oversight on Pilots’ and Cabin Crew Members’ hiring, training and qualification programmes; flight safety and technical programmes; flight dispatch operations; and liaison with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on behalf of Ibom Air.

With 13 years’ experience as a Commercial Pilot behind him, Captain Odunsi holds an Air Transport Pilot License and is an Instructor and Examiner on the CRJ-900 aircraft.
He was appointed the Director of Flight Operations in April 2021, having been the pioneer Chief Pilot of Ibom Air from inception in 2019.

Apart from his professional qualifications, Captain Odunsi holds a B.Sc. in Physics and a Diploma in Computer Science. He has attended several technical and management programmes, locally and internationally.

Idorenyin Eddie

Director, People Management

As Director, People Management (DPM), Ms. Eddie is directly responsible for the management of the company’s most important resource, its people. This includes responsibility for recruitment and training, organisational development and corporate culture development.

Ms. Eddie has over 30 years experience in Organisational Development, Marketing and Strategy gained mostly in the ICT industry in a career that saw her work at Infographics Nigeria Limited, Infosoft Nigeria Ltd and Microsoft Anglophone West Africa Ltd.

During her stints in these companies, she managed the implementation of diverse ICT and Organisational Development projects in companies such as British American Tobacco (BAT), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), United Bank for Africa (UBA), MTN Nigeria, Nigeria 99, Federal Ministry of Aviation, NEPA/PHCN, FCMB, Fidelity Bank, Unity Bank, Akwa Ibom State Government and many others. Through these, she developed strong expertise in Negotiation Skills, Team Building and Leadership, and Human Resource Management.

Ms. Eddie holds a BA (Hons) degree from University of Cross River State as well as several professional and executive qualifications, including the Executive Management Programme of the Lagos Business School; Creative Leadership Strategies for the Future of Work at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom and the Airbus Pilot Instructor Course (APIC Core Initial) Competency Based Training and Assessment at Airbus, Toulouse, France, amongst others.

Oluwasegun Akinfesola

Director, Maintenance

Oluwasegun Akinfesola has over 26 years’ experience in the aviation industry.

He became a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer twenty-one years ago and is rated on various aircraft such as Tampico TB9, Boeing 737 (Classic & NG Series), and De Havilland Dash 8 (All Classic and Q400 Series).

He is an ICAO Certified Technical Instructor.

His industry experience includes times spent at ADC Airlines in various roles such as Stores Officer, Systems Officer, Systems & Planning Engineer, Aircraft Engineer and eventually as Manager of Aircraft Maintenance Support.

He also had a stint as Planning & Quality Assurance Engineer at Freedom Air Services in Kano. Thereafter, he joined Aero Contractors Company of Nigeria Limited where he held various roles including Aircraft Licensed Engineer, B737 Fleet Type Engineer, DHC Dash 8 Fleet Type Engineer, Engineering Manager; and eventually served in the role of Technical Director for 9 years.

As Director of Maintenance, he is responsible for Continuing Airworthiness and associated Maintenance of Ibom Air Fleet in accordance with requirements of relevant Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority Regulations (Nig CARs).

He holds academic degrees from Nigerian and foreign universities. He has also attended several technical and management programmes both locally and internationally.
